  1.  The habitations of all things which dwell, 
  2.  Were burnt for beacons; cities were consumed, 
  3.  And men were gatherΓÇÖd round their blazing homes 
  4.  To look once more into each otherΓÇÖs face; 
  5.  Happy were those who dwelt within the eye 
  6.  Of the volcanos, and their mountain-torch: 
  7.  A fearful hope was all the world containΓÇÖd; 
  8.  Forests were set on fireΓÇöbut hour by hour 
  9.  They fell and fadedΓÇöand the crackling trunks 
  10.  ExtinguishΓÇÖd with a crashΓÇöand all was black. 
  11.  The brows of men by the despairing light 
  12.  Wore an unearthly aspect, as by fits 
  13.  The flashes fell upon them; some lay down 
  14.  And hid their eyes and wept; and some did rest 
  15.  Their chins upon their clench├¿d hands, and smiled;
